Peripatetic Lessons

September 2023

Dear Parent/Carer,

Instrumental Tuition Information: Autumn 2023

I am writing to inform you of the opportunities for your son/daughter to learn a musical instrument at the school and take part in music activities. The instrumental lessons take place during the day and there is the opportunity of performing during performances and concerts. We have a limited number of instruments, which can be loaned from us. We do have drum kits and keyboards in the team which can be used during the lessons so these larger instruments do not need to be brought in from home.

Lessons are available in the following instruments: keyboard, piano, clarinet, flute, oboe, saxophone, trumpet, trombone, drums, singing and guitar (classical, electric and bass).

There is a charge of £107 for one term’s lessons (ten individual 20 minute lessons with a qualified teacher).

However, in certain circumstances financial help may be available from Essex Music Services via their website. They offer vouchers to families who have an annual income of less than £16,190 and are receiving one of the following benefits:

  • Income Support

  • Jobseeker's Allowance

  • Child Tax Credit.

We accept the vouchers offered by Essex Music Services (£50) and lessons for a term will be at a cost of £57 with these.

Instrumental lessons for students studying GCSE Music and Btec Level 3 Music are compulsory. We offer those studying these Music courses instrumental lessons at a discounted rate of £54 per term. This will prepare them for the performing units; 30% of both courses.

Once you have filled in the form and paid the fees, your child will be added to the relevant Google Classroom for their instrument. Students are expected to attend every lesson. Their lesson times will be clearly displayed on the notice board in the Music corridor as well as on their teacher’s Google Classroom. Students who continually fail to attend will be removed from the list and monies will not be refunded.

If your child wishes to stop lessons at any point, we will need at least half a term (6 weeks) written notice as we pay the tutors in advance and would need to cancel the lesson time.

Students will be able to practise their instruments every morning from 8am. We have many guitars, drum kits and keyboards, so even if you do not have instruments at home students can still learn to play.

If you are interested in your child having these lessons, please fill in the Google form which can be found here:

Please note that if your child had lessons in the Spring Term of this academic year, they will not be automatically added to the timetable. You will need to fill out a new form for this term.

Lessons will not be available without a fully completed Google form and full payment which should be paid using Parent Pay.

Instrumental lessons will commence week beginning 25th September 2023, therefore all Google forms will need to be returned no later than Monday 18th September 2023. If you have issues with payment before this date, please fill in the form anyway to secure your child’s place and contact the school office to arrange payment.

Yours Sincerely,

Ms E Russell
