BEST EVER A-LEVEL EXAM RESULTS AT DEBDEN PARK

Debden Park School Sixth Form has achieved its best ever set of A Level exam results this year, bucking the national trend. Over half of grades have come in at  A*-B, and Debden students have obtained above the national average at A*-C for the first time.

Headteacher Helen Gascoyne said “We are thrilled with the excellent achievement of our students. Despite the disruption and uncertainty over the last three to four years which has meant this cohort did not have the opportunity to sit a full set of GCSEs, our students have been rewarded for all the hard work, dedication and resilience that they and our staff have shown. We are incredibly proud that so many of our students, whether they have been with us on a seven year journey or if they joined us just two years ago, are now going on to pursue their dreams at some of the best universities in the world.”

We are delighted that our students, contrary to the national trend, have achieved a record number of A and A*s. Daniel McLaughlin achieved straight A*s in Maths, Computer Science and Physics and will now go on to study Maths with a year in Industry at the University of Birmingham.  A visibly delighted Daniel said :“I am so happy to have achieved the grades I have. I’ve had a fantastic 7 years at Debden Park and am so grateful for all the support my teachers have given me. I’ve always felt supported and challenged, and now I can’t wait to get started at Birmingham!”

Once again, Debden students are going on to study at leading universities. More than a third of our students have places at either Russell Group or other Top 20 universities in the country, including Kings College London, York, Nottingham, Liverpool and Queen Mary London to study an incredibly diverse range of courses including Physics, Economics, Biomedical Science, History, Maths, Law, and Computer Science. Lewis Bennett, who progressed to Debden’s sixth form after 5 years at King Harold, will now study Physics at Kings College. He reflected: “I have really loved my time at Debden, and I am delighted that the hard work has now paid off.” Larissa Matheus, who began at Debden in 2021, is now going on to study Modern Foreign Languages with Business at the University of Nottingham, having achieved 2 A*s, an A and 2 Bs. She said: “I didn’t start Debden imagining I’d be so successful. I have had such an incredible time since joining in Year 12, and I’ve been pushed all the way to fulfil my potential. I now can’t wait to see what university has to offer me.”

As ever, Debden students have been encouraged to ‘Be Your Own Future’, and therefore our students are pursuing a range of post-18 courses. Our Executive head girl, Lucy Bailey, was delighted to achieve 2 As and a Distinction, and will now attend Royal Holloway to study Drama and Acting. She said: “This hasn’t been the easiest year for any of us, and I can confidently say that I could never have achieved the grades that I have without the outstanding support and encouragement from all of the teachers.”

We have a number of students that have taken offers of apprenticeships with some very prestigious employers. Executive Head Boy Jacob Elsdon, who is going to start a Law trainee apprenticeship course with Osborne Clarke, one of the country’s top law firms, and achieved 2 A*s and a Distinction*, said: ‘’I’ve been at Debden Park since I joined at 11, and I honestly cannot thank the school and all of the teachers enough for their constant support to get me to this point, and cannot wait to see what the future holds’
