GCSE success at Debden Park High School

Debden Park students have produced some exceptional GCSE results, with grades returning back in line with pre-pandemic levels which has resulted in a number of increased grade boundaries.

Results were impressive in English, with almost three quarters of students achieving a pass and nearly 70% of students passing Maths. Outstanding results were also achieved in Art, where 87% of students were awarded a grade 6 or above. There were a large number of students who achieved the highest grade of a 9 in a wide range of subjects. A total of 43 grade 9s were achieved, 72 grade 8s and 112 grade 7s, bucking the national trend which has seen a reduction in these highest grades being awarded.

Natalia Kolade achieved an incredible set of results, achieving eight grade 9s including in Maths and English Literature. Natalia said “I’m shocked at my results, I wasn’t expecting them to be this good. All those hours spent revising are all worth it to see these results on paper. I couldn’t have done it without the support of my parents and all my teachers, thank you all so much. I can’t wait to begin my A-levels now”. Natalia enrolled at Debden Park High School Sixth Form this morning and will study Biology, Chemistry and Mathematics.

Rhys Jenner’s superb results included five grades at the highest level including grade 9s in Biology, Chemistry and Physics. Rhys will also be starting Year 12 at Debden Park Sixth Form studying A-levels in English Literature, Maths and Physics.

Head of School, Helen Gascoyne, said: “We are so proud of our Year 11 students, there are some superb exam results and it was great to see so many smiling faces this morning when students opened their envelopes. This cohort has faced so many challenges over their 5 years of secondary education, the likes of which have never been faced before, and for them to excel like they have is testament to, and reward for, all their hard work and resilience. They have done our school and their families proud.

“I would like to take this opportunity to appreciate the support our students have received from their parents and carers over the past few challenging years, and to thank our staff for their innovation, dedication and for going above and beyond for our students.  There is no doubt that without this, these results would not have been possible”

There has been a record number of applicants for Debden Park’s Sixth Form, from Debden’s own students, from their partner school, King Harold Academy, and from a range of schools in the local area. This year, DPHS received 140 external applicants, following last week’s record A Level results.

Debden Park students with notably exceptional results include:

Natalia Kolade: eight 9s and a grade 8

Rhys Jenner: five 9s and four 8s

Mae Robinson: five 9s, two 8s and two 7s

Niamh Tomlinson: five 9s, three 8s and a grade 6
