‘Best Ever’ GCSE results at Debden Park High School

‘Best Ever’ GCSE results at Debden Park High School

Debden Park students have once again produced some exceptional GCSE results, with record pass levels in English and Maths. This year, the students had been set the goal of being the ‘greatest of all time’ and they have very much lived up to this target.

Results were impressive across the board, but especially so in English with almost 90% of the cohort achieving a pass, with students across all abilities making more progress in English than their national peers. The school is equally delighted that a record number passed Maths and that students have done better than ever before in Combined Science. Success was had across the board, with the average pass level across all subjects well above national. The percentage of students achieving the highest grades (7 to 9) has leapfrogged in all the Sciences, all the Humanities and in subjects such as Drama and Photography.

Many individual students achieved incredible sets of results.

Nathan Burnage 9s and 8 across the board 'The school helped me to get to a point to confidently enter the exams, giving me the motivation to do my best. The amount of help and resources I received were unbelievably good. In particular the number of period 7 and smaller group interventions available to help me to close my gaps'

Zoobia Saleem average grade of 8.5, 'The support system in the school is brilliant, I couldn't have done this without everyone at Debden. In particular, Period 7's and my morning form group with the Headteacher, where I received grade 9 masterclasses and one to one support - thank you so much'.

Arthur Shipp average grade of 8.5, 'I can't thank enough the great support the teachers gave me throughout - they encouraged us to be the greatest of all time, which really motivated me to revise'.

Head of School, Andrew Hogan, said: “We are so proud of this cohort: we set them ambitious challenges and they have done exceptionally well to meet them. There are so many superb exam results and it was great to see many, many smiling faces when students opened their envelopes this morning. We know that these students are now so well placed to be able to shape their own futures, and we are delighted that a great many of them will be building on their success by joining us in our sixth form. We always say there is no limit to what students can achieve at this school and what they can go on to do, and this year’s outcomes, at both Year 11 and Year 13, are testament to this. They have done our school and their families proud. “I would like to take this opportunity to appreciate the support our students have received from their parents and carers over the past few challenging years, and to thank our staff for their innovation, dedication and for going above and beyond for our students.  There is no doubt that without this, these results would not have been possible.”

There has been a record number of applicants for Debden Park’s Sixth Form, from Debden’s own students, from their partner school, King Harold Academy, and from a range of schools in the local area. This year, DPHS received 150 external applicants, following last week’s record A Level results and the growing reputation of Debden’s sixth form as a place of excellence and a gateway to impressive destinations.

Debden Park students with notably exceptional results include:

Nathan Burnage: five 9s, three 8s and a Distinction

Samanta Bagurske achieved 5 grade 9s, 3 grade 8s and a grade 7.

Verity Lock: two 9s, six 8s

Zoobia Saleem: two 9s, five 8s, two 7s

Arthur Shipp: one 9, six 8s, two sevens

Debden Park is incredibly proud of their students at both GCSE and A-Level and of the school itself.  Therefore we would like to invite prospective parents and students to our Open Morning on Saturday September 21st (9am till noon) and the Sixth Form Open Evening on Thursday 21st November (4pm-6pm).
