EXCEPTIONAL EXAM RESULTS AND EXCITING DESTINATIONS AT DEBDEN PARK
Debden Park School Sixth Form has achieved another excellent set of A Level exam results. Almost half of grades have come in at A*-B, with 20% at A and A*, meaning Debden students are once again going on to a varied and prestigious range of destinations.
Headteacher Dr Andrew Hogan said “We are thrilled with the exceptional achievement of our students. We are incredibly proud that so many of our students, whether they have been with us on a seven year journey or if they joined us just two years ago, are now going on to pursue their dreams, whether that be at some of the best universities in the world or through prestigious degree apprenticeships at the likes of the Bank of England. We’d like to thank all of our students, their parents and carers, and all of our teaching staff for their dedication and their brilliance which has meant we have been able secure another really impressive set of exam results, beating the national trend on several important measures.”
The school is understandably delighted that so many of their students have demonstrated such academic excellence. Prisha Surti, who achieved straight A*s in Maths, Computer Science, Economics, and EPQ has secured a place on the Bank of England’s Degree Apprenticeship programme. A visibly delighted Prisha explained that “moving to Debden in Year 9 was the best decision I made and I cannot thank the teachers for the support along the way.” Sabrina Stefan performed exceptionally in obtaining 3 A*s in Maths, Chemistry and Biology, and will now study Medicine at Imperial College, London. Head Girl, Ruby Gambrill, who moved to Debden from its sister school, King Harold Academy, at the beginning of year 12, achieved 2 A*s and an A and will now be one of two students heading to Cambridge. Ruby reflected on her time at Debden: “Debden is a school that encourages not only academic brilliance, but personal growth and support. Thanks to Debden I will always remember that ‘me plus effort will always do greater than me without’, that ‘luck means less when you work hard’, that ‘a blank answer is a wrong answer’, and, most importantly, that ‘anyone can be their own future’.” Zak Kern celebrated completing his seven year journey by achieving straight As and receiving a place to read History at Kings College, Cambridge. Both Zak and Ruby will now be following in the footsteps of other Debden alumni who have excelled at Oxbridge, not least Ashwin Gohill who this year graduated with a Double Starred First in History from Emmanuel College, Cambridge.
Students at Debden are encouraged to ‘Be Your Own Future’ and this ambition has materialised for so many this summer with Debden students set to study at leading universities throughout the UK across a range of courses. Kalysta Constantinou, having been given the opportunity by the school to receive mentoring from an Auctioneer at Christie’s Auction House while in year 13, has obtained a place at the incredibly prestigious Courtauld Institute of Art to study History of Art. The school is particularly delighted that students have been able to imagine their futures across an array of specialisms: Megan Offley is pursuing her dream at the Royal Veterinary College to study veterinary nursing, while Sarah Avdiu is studying Architecture at Sheffield. Hope Mitchell is heading to the LMA to study Musical Theatre, while Michael Bolebrukh, who achieved 2 A*s and an A, is all set for Edinburgh University to read Maths and Computer Science. Michael, who joined the school two years previous, was keen to thank the school for “the tailored and individualised support” he received.
